3 Steps to Transition your Skincare routine from Winter to Spring!

The wrath of Winter has come to an end so it’s time to come out of hibernation and spring into the new season. Spring is a time of rebirth, and when it comes to skincare this should be no exception to the rule.

Here’s our top 3 tips when it comes to re-evaluating your skincare routine.

1. Make cleansers, serums, moisturisers and SPF a daily ritual.

Cleansing will, and always remain a vital step in your skincare routine all year round! It helps to support our skin's natural exfoliation process and removes any debri, dirt, pollution and oil buildup. Leaving these yuckies on the skin causes the skin to become clogged, riddled with bacteria, and additionally accelerates free radical damage. Free radicals are responsible for breaking down our skin's collagen, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and loose, saggy skin…say no more! When choosing a cleanser for the spring season, make sure you pick one that is going to hydrate and soothe your skin. To keep your skin barrier strong and healthy, avoid any cleansers with artificial colours, fragrances and stripping ingredients. Your skin should feel hydrated after your cleanse, not tight and dry. If you are not sure which cleanser is right for you, we offer online skin consults or we are just one phone call away.

We recommend Aspect Gentle Clean Cleanser containing Lactic Acid to smooth and hydrate, Canadian Willowherb to soothe and Kakadu Plum to calm and illuminate your complexion.

Serums will give your skin that extra dose of nutrition and followed after your cleanse, will be effortlessly absorbed into your skin. As Spring gives us sunnier days, it’s important to protect your skin from free radical damage with a Vitamin C Serum in the AM. This acts as a shield under your SPF and will keep your skin looking brighter, younger and more radiant. We recommend Vital C Hydrating Anti-Ageing Serum as it contains multiple forms of Vitamin C to instantly soothe dullness and dryness, whilst defending your skin against daily stressors.  It also contains Hyaluronic Acid to lock in hydration that Winter has tried so hard to steal from us.

You may have been using a heavier moisturiser during the cooler months to lock that moisture in. The spring season brings a rise in humidity, sun, sweat and pollen.  If you’re feeling naturally oilier, it might be worth swapping for a lighter one (that’s still hydrating of course!). If you’re suffering from hay fever, be gentle to your skin and make sure to use products that are going to be soothing and calming to the skin and keep your moisture levels up. We recommend Gernetic Cold Cream Mousse, the MVP for springtime skin. This light, fluffy, comforting cream transforms into a silky texture when applied and dries with a matte finish, ideal for makeup application. It keeps the moisture in and harmful pathogens out, making it the perfect companion for ALL skin types and in particular those with signs of acne, redness, inflammation, dryness, reaction prone, sensitive, rosacea, eczema, dermatitis or a compromised skin barrier. Last, but definitely not least is SPF. This again is a staple product and needs to be applied daily. The UV rays are present all year round and really start to ramp up once the sun is shining. SPF protects your skin from premature ageing, sun spots and cancer so invest in a good quality one that agrees with your skin. Prevention + Matte gives your skin hydration without feeling too heavy on the skin.

2. Don’t forget about your eyes and lips!

With the sun out we are naturally going to be squinting more which causes the dreaded fine lines and wrinkles. And the increase in pollen from grass, weeds and trees can make our eyes puffier! Ormedic Eye Lift Gel is the ultimate saviour from this. This lightweight gel formula will instantly make you feel more refreshed and will soothe and hydrate dry and delicate skin. Packed with peptides to pe-duff and smooth the eye area, you’ll visually notice your eye area looking more fresh, rested and youthful.

To avoid chapped, cracked lips, ensure you keep your favourite lip balm in your handbag at all times. Our pick for soft and supple lips? Aspect hydrating lip balm! The Shea butter, Cacao Seed butter and fruit oils will infuse your lips with intense moisture and long lasting protection from dehydration.

3. Restore your glow with weekly exfoliation and hydration!

Our skin is typically duller in Winter and often we can get an unwanted accumulation of dead skin cells that struggle to be shed during the colder months. A gentle exfoliation can help to brighten up our skin and remove any congestion that’s feeling stuck. We recommend an enzyme based exfoliator to help with these, like Iluma Brightening Powder. It buffs away dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling smooth, illuminated and ready to absorb any serums or masks to follow without compromising the integrity of your skin barrier.

A weekly hydrating mask will help to lock in moisture that Winter has cheekily stolen from us. We’re loving Image Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Masque as it doubles as both an exfoliation and a mask treatment. Containing two nourishing forms of Vitamin C to fight the look of dark spots and even out skin tone, hyaluronic acid to keep your skin looking hydrated and balanced, fruit enzymes to gently exfoliate dull skin buildup and an infusion of vitamins and antioxidants to promote a healthy glow.
